A Data Scientist and a Librarian Walk into a Protest

Avatar

When data science and information literacy collide, great things happen! Come along with us as we walk you through our semester-long instructional collaboration guiding twenty students through independent group research projects bringing analysis of public data to bear on pressing social justice concerns.

Academic library instruction often comes in the form of the one-shot: a single session tailored to the needs of a particular class and research assignment. Those of us delivering those one-shots often dream of the possibilities in longer-term, multi-visit instructional partnerships. Interdisciplinary, collaborative efforts can be a challenge, but the rewards they reap are well worth the investment of time and energy. We will share our framework, process, and outcomes with you as a model for building collaborative instructional possibilities at your institution.
