Companion Planting: Open Pedagogy for Developing Inclusive Collections

How can open pedagogy practices inform collection development? Growing inclusive collections that feature underrepresented voices is an ongoing and vital practice. Libraries are cultivating strategies to assist in this work: assessing collections, identifying publishers, and allocating budgets. And yet, finding diverse authors continues to be a complex challenge requiring ingenuity and collaboration. This presentation will introduce a case study of an open pedagogical course collaboration. Its aim was to engage students in identifying underrepresented voices in the nature writing canon to inform the academic community and grow diverse collections.
